3 Cafes I’m Obsessed With

There are a few places I’ve visited over the last few years which have permanently penetrated my foodie mind. Places which have some of the most delicious, unforgettable food on this continent.

Cafe Frischhut in Munich

I’m not usually a fan of doughnuts, finding them dry and heavy but those at Cafe Frischhut are something else. Hot from the fryer and dipped in sugar, the Stritzerl are pure heaven on a plate. I’m so obsessed with this place that I once contemplated doing a day trip to Munich from Paris to buy some Stritzerl. Six hours there, one hour to get the goodies and six hours back. Utter madness or pure genius?

La Mallorquina in Madrid

Walking through Madrid one morning, I came across a cafe in Plaza de la Puerta del Sol with locals queued out the door and down the street. If that’s not a good sign I don’t know what is. Naturally I joined the queue to see what all the fuss was about. Almost everyone was ordering something which looked like a chocolate croissant called napolitanas de chocolate. A hot buttery pastry with melted chocolate oozing out with each bite. I constantly dream of returning to Madrid just to visit this cafe.

Breizh Cafe in Paris

You won’t find better crepes than those at Breizh Cafe in Paris. I’m having a hard time finding anyone obsessed with these crepes as much as me but whatever, I know they are the best in the world, both the savoury and the sweet crepes with salted butter caramel sauce. If I lived in the 4th I would be their number one customer. I wonder if they offer discounts to regulars…
