Praluline

Earlier today I saw a blog post about the Praluline. I had no idea what it was and didn’t really pay that much attention. Later I was wandering around the Marais when I saw a bunch of them in the window of bakery Pralus. Naturally I couldn’t resist trying it, even with its steep 6 euro price tag.

Praluline Pralus

The Praluline is a sweet bread containing almonds and hazelnuts which have been coated in sugar:

A rich brioche flavored with pieces of pralines made in-house: Valencia almonds and Piedmont hazelnuts coated in rose sugar and then cracked.

I have never had anything like it. It was quite sweet but delicious and completely unique.

Those were one of our favorite thing when we lived in Paris. My wife and I would get one as often as possible. I miss them (I’d go as far as saying this is one of the only things I miss from Paris).

Haha, c’mon there must other things you miss about Paris.

How do you eat the Praluline? Do you just have it plain on it’s own or do you put butter or something else on it?

      • David says:

Not really no… OK there are a couple of restaurants too maybe (It’s a common misconception for foreigners that Paris is that awesome city. That’s because you guys don’t know better and grew up with all of those fantasies about Paris ;-) Almost any French person NOT from Paris will tell you where they rank Paris among various French places (clue: near the bottom).

Concerning pralulines, well, you can eat them the way you want, but a good rule of thumb if that when something has a specific flavor (like pralulines do) you don’t eat them with anything else on them, that would be a waste. (in other words: keep the butter or anything else for bread and just bread) :-)

That’s how I had the praluline, I just wanted to get verification from a Frenchie :)

In case you didn’t know, I have been living in Paris for the last 5 years so I’m well aware of how much Paris sucks. I alternate between loving and hating it and having been away for a couple of months (I’m spending the summer in Australia) I’m finally starting to miss it. But I’m sure as soon as I get back I’ll be looking to get out of there again :)

LOL. No I had no idea you had been living in Paris for so long. I guess we arrived there around the same time then (I moved there in November 2005). Sick and tired of it, I moved out last summer (for the only reason that I couldn’t stand it anymore, I even went as far as leaving the best job I have ever had) and I don’t regret it a single bit. The only things I miss are: Pralulines, ;) a few restaurants, a few bars and pubs, and my friends (well and my old job too, but I’ve recently learned that the place is going to close, so I would have lost it in a few months anyway).
